THE
LAW ENFORCEMENT
TORCH RUN MISSION

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law enforcement officers from the 50 United States, 10 Canadian provinces and territories, and 32 countries carry the Flame of Hope in honor of the Special Olympics athletes in their area and around the world.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fund-raiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world. In 2006, this international program raised over  $26 million USD to support Special Olympics programs; the total raised since the Torch Run's inception in 1981 is US$150 million. More than 80,000 law enforcement officers from thousands of agencies have carried the Flame of Hope.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police is the founding law enforcement organization of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

THE ALBERTA
LAW ENFORCEMENT
TORCH RUN MISSION

The Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run program, supported by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), has grown at an incredible rate since it's re-inception in November of 2002.

Active throughout the province in the late 1980s and through the mid 1990s, the program was successful in raising in excess of $100,000.00 annually. The provincial program was inactive for a 5 year period between 1997 and 2002.

In 2002, the provincial program was re-vitalized and a number of fundraising events and awareness events were conducted.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run program has been recognized by the Internationally Law Enforcement Torch Run Program for growth.  For the 2003/2004 year, the Alberta LETR was given the award for the Highest Percentage Growth of all programs in the world. In 2004/2005, our program received the 4th place award for percentage growth and the 5th place award for largest gross increase in fundraising.

Thank you so much to the Calgary Police Service Half Marathon
for their continuous support by way of a generous donation to LETR for Special Olympics.
